For a long time, straightening your teeth meant fixed metal braces - and everything that comes with them. The look, the discomfort, the dietary restrictions, the lengthy appointments. For a lot of adults, that was enough to put them off altogether.
Invisalign changed that. Clear, removable, and designed to fit around your life rather than disrupt it - it's made orthodontic treatment a realistic option for people who would never have considered braces. And when it's delivered by the right team, the results are every bit as good.
Not all Invisalign is the same. The results you get depend heavily on the experience and skill of the person planning and overseeing your treatment.
At Modwena Dental, Invisalign treatment is led by Richard Cully - a Recognised Specialist Orthodontist and the founder of Modwena Orthodontics. Richard has extensive experience working across multiple practices and hospitals, with a particular focus on complex orthodontic cases and multi-disciplinary treatment planning. He's also actively involved in orthodontic professional bodies, meaning his knowledge is always current.
Having a Specialist Orthodontist leading your Invisalign treatment isn't something every practice can offer. It means your case is assessed, planned, and overseen by someone with the highest level of clinical training in tooth movement - giving you the best possible chance of an outstanding result.
And we're proud to be an Invisalign Diamond provider - one of the highest provider statuses Invisalign awards, recognising practices that consistently deliver high volumes of successful treatment. It's not a badge we take lightly.

Invisalign is a system of custom-made clear aligners - thin, transparent trays that fit snugly over your teeth. Each set of aligners is slightly different from the last, applying gentle, controlled pressure to gradually move your teeth into the planned position.
You wear each set of aligners for around one to two weeks before moving on to the next set in the series. The number of aligners in your treatment - and therefore how long it takes - depends on the complexity of your case.
Everything is digitally planned from the start using Invisalign's 3D treatment planning technology. Before your treatment even begins, you'll be able to see a virtual simulation of how your teeth are expected to move and what the end result should look like.

Crowded teeth - where there isn't quite enough space for all your teeth to sit comfortably
Gaps between teeth
Overbite - where the upper front teeth overlap the lower ones too much
Underbite - where the lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth
Crossbite - where some upper and lower teeth don't meet correctly
Open bite - where the upper and lower front teeth don't make contact when biting
Generally uneven or misaligned teeth

Invisalign and fixed braces both move teeth effectively - but they suit different situations and different people. Here's a straightforward comparison:
Invisalign works best for patients who want a discreet treatment, value the flexibility of removing their aligners, and have the discipline to wear them consistently. The removability is one of its biggest advantages - but it also means results depend on compliance. If aligners aren't worn for the recommended 20 to 22 hours a day, treatment will take longer.
Fixed braces - including our tooth-coloured ceramic options - are bonded to the teeth and work continuously without any input from you. For more complex cases, they can often achieve results that aligners alone can't. They're also the go-to for patients who'd rather not think about their treatment day-to-day.
The good news is that at Modwena Dental, you have access to both - and a Specialist Orthodontist to help you choose the right one. There's no agenda here, just an honest recommendation based on your teeth and your lifestyle.

The overall cost depends on the complexity of your case and the length of treatment. Simpler cases with minor tooth movement will sit towards the lower end - more complex cases will cost more.
Spreading the cost of Invisalign We know Invisalign is a significant investment, and we offer flexible finance options to make it more manageable:
Your treatment coordinator will walk you through all the options at your consultation so you can make the right decision for your budget.
Your orthodontic consultation is £100 and includes a full assessment, digital scans, clinical records, and a detailed written report outlining your treatment options and associated costs.

For mild to moderate orthodontic cases, Invisalign can achieve results that are every bit as good as fixed braces. For more complex cases, fixed braces - or a combination of both - may give a better outcome. Richard will give you an honest assessment of which approach is right for your specific situation.
Treatment length varies depending on the complexity of the case. Simpler cases can be completed in as little as six months. More complex treatment typically takes between 12 and 24 months. Your digital treatment plan will give you a clear indication of the expected timeline before you commit.
Invisalign isn't painful in the way that many people associate with orthodontic treatment. When you switch to a new set of aligners, you may feel some pressure or mild discomfort for the first day or two as your teeth begin to move - this is completely normal and settles quickly.
Invisalign aligners are designed to be as discreet as possible. Most people won't notice them unless they're looking closely. They're far less visible than any type of fixed brace.
Yes - because the aligners are removable, you take them out to eat and drink. This means no food restrictions, which is one of the things patients love most about Invisalign. You do need to brush your teeth before putting aligners back in to avoid trapping food or bacteria against your teeth.
Contact us as soon as possible. In most cases, you'll either move on to the next set of aligners in the series or go back to wearing your previous set while a replacement is made. It's worth keeping your previous set of aligners for this reason.
Yes - retainers are an essential part of your treatment, not an optional extra. Once your teeth have moved into position, they need to be held there. Without retainers, teeth can gradually drift back over time. We'll fit you with retainers at the end of your treatment and advise on how to wear them.
