Staying on top of your dental health doesn't have to be complicated. A regular check-up is the simplest thing you can do to keep your teeth and gums in good shape - and to catch anything early before it becomes a bigger problem.

It's easy to skip a check-up when nothing feels wrong. But a lot of dental problems - including gum disease, tooth decay, and even oral cancer - don't cause any pain or obvious symptoms in the early stages. By the time something starts to hurt, it's often more involved to treat.
Coming in for a regular check-up means we can spot anything early, keep a close eye on anything that's developing, and help you stay on top of your oral health with straightforward, preventative advice. It's always easier - and less costly - to deal with something small than to leave it until it becomes something bigger.
Your check-up is a proper, thorough assessment - not a quick glance and a goodbye. Here's what we cover:
You'll leave knowing exactly where things stand - and if anything does need attention, we'll talk you through your options clearly.

If you're coming to see us for the first time, your check-up is part of our new patient appointment, priced at £100 for 30 minutes of dedicated clinical time.
This includes digital X-rays where needed, detailed intraoral scanning for a precise picture of your mouth, and a personalised treatment plan based on what you actually need. Patients often tell us how thorough it feels - it's far more than a standard check-up.
We use advanced in-house imaging technology, meaning we can assess your teeth, gums, and underlying bone structure without referring you elsewhere. Everything is done under one roof.
How often you need to come in depends on the current state of your oral health. Some patients benefit from coming every six months, while others with very healthy teeth and gums may only need a check-up once a year. Your dentist will recommend what's right for you based on what they find at your appointment.
If you've left it a while since your last visit, don't worry - we see that all the time and we won't make you feel bad about it. We'll simply start from where you are now and work out the best plan from there.

Check-up appointments from £36
This includes a comprehensive assessment, with X-rays and scans where clinically necessary, along with personalised advice on your oral health and any recommended treatment.
We offer both NHS and private care at Modwena Dental - your dentist will discuss the options available to you.
Yes - and we'd always recommend pairing a check-up with a hygiene visit where possible. A hygienist can give your teeth a thorough professional clean, removing built-up plaque and tartar that brushing at home simply can't shift.
We offer direct access hygiene at Modwena Dental, which means you can book a hygiene appointment without needing a dentist referral first. It's a straightforward way to keep your gums healthy between check-ups.

We're based in Stoke-on-Trent and see patients from Hanley, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Shelton, Hartshill, Penkhull, and Trent Vale, as well as from wider Staffordshire, Derbyshire, and Leicestershire.
If you're looking for a practice where you'll be treated as an individual rather than a number, we'd love to welcome you.
For new patients, your check-up is part of a 30-minute appointment that covers everything in detail. For returning patients, a standard check-up is typically around 20 minutes, though this can vary depending on what needs to be assessed.
That's completely fine - and more common than you'd think. We won't judge you for any gaps in your dental history. Our job is simply to get a clear picture of where things stand now and help you move forward from there.
A check-up itself is non-invasive and shouldn't cause any discomfort. Your dentist will take a careful look at your teeth and gums, and if X-rays are needed, these are quick and straightforward. If you're nervous about any part of the appointment, just let us know - we'll always take things at your pace.
If we spot anything that needs attention, we'll explain clearly what it is, what your options are, and what we'd recommend. There's never any pressure to make a decision on the spot - we'll make sure you have all the information you need first.
Absolutely. We have a lot of experience looking after nervous patients, and several members of our team have a particular interest in helping people who find dental visits difficult. If you think you might need a little extra support, sedation is also available at our practice.
Yes, we welcome patients of all ages. Getting children into good habits with regular check-ups early on is one of the best things you can do for their long-term dental health.
