Dental implants in Stoke-on-Trent

A dental implant is the closest thing to a natural tooth that modern dentistry can offer. If you're missing a tooth - or facing the prospect of losing one - an implant is a permanent, long-lasting solution that looks, feels, and functions just like the real thing.

A missing tooth is more than a cosmetic problem

It's easy to think of a gap in your smile as something that only affects how you look. But a missing tooth has a knock-on effect that goes deeper than appearance.

When a tooth is lost, the bone beneath it no longer receives the stimulation it needs to stay healthy - and it begins to shrink. The surrounding teeth start to drift into the space, affecting your bite. Chewing becomes uneven, putting extra strain on other teeth. Over time, what started as a single missing tooth can become a much more complicated problem.

A dental implant addresses all of this. It replaces the root of the missing tooth as well as the visible crown - stimulating the jawbone, keeping neighbouring teeth in position, and restoring full function to your mouth.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Once the implant has integrated with the bone - a process called osseointegration - a custom-made crown is attached to the top, creating a restoration that looks and functions just like a natural tooth.

Titanium is used because it's biocompatible - meaning the body accepts it without rejection. At Modwena Dental we use Straumann implants, one of the most trusted and clinically proven implant systems in the world, backed by decades of research and some of the strongest long-term success rates in the industry.

The result is a fixed, permanent tooth replacement that doesn't affect the teeth on either side of it - unlike a bridge - and nothing to remove at night, unlike dentures.

Why choose Modwena Dental for implant treatment in Stoke-on-Trent?

Dental implant treatment is only as good as the hands it's carried out in. At Modwena Dental, implants are placed by Edward Cully, our principal dentist, who has a strong special interest in implant dentistry and non-invasive techniques to restore and improve smiles.

Edward takes a thorough, unhurried approach to implant treatment - beginning with a detailed consultation that gives you a complete picture of your options before anything is agreed. We also have advanced imaging technology in-house, including a CBCT scanner that produces detailed 3D images of your jaw and bone structure. This level of detail allows for precise implant planning and significantly reduces the guesswork involved in treatment.

Patients often comment on how comprehensive their implant consultation feels. You'll leave with a full understanding of your situation, a personalised treatment plan, and a written report outlining your options and costs - all before committing to anything.

Your dental implant journey at Modwena Dental

01

Your implant consultation

Everything begins with a detailed consultation with Edward. This covers a full clinical assessment of your mouth, teeth, and gums, along with a review of your bone structure using our in-house imaging. Photos, scans, and any other records needed are taken at this appointment. You'll discuss your goals, your medical history, and what the implant process will look like for you specifically. A written report is sent to you afterwards detailing the findings, your treatment plan, and all associated costs.

02

Preparing the foundation

Before an implant can be placed, your mouth needs to be in good health. Any active gum disease or decay is addressed first - healthy gums and sufficient bone are the foundation of a successful implant. If bone volume has reduced since the tooth was lost, a bone graft may be discussed as part of your treatment plan.

03

Implant placement

The implant - a small titanium post - is carefully placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic. The procedure is more straightforward than most patients expect. You'll feel pressure during placement but not pain. Once placed, a healing cap is fitted and the integration process begins.

04

Osseointegration - letting the implant settle

Over the following weeks and months, the titanium post fuses with the surrounding bone in a process called osseointegration. This is what gives the implant its exceptional stability and longevity. Most patients find this healing period very manageable - there's no visible gap as a temporary restoration is provided.

05

Your custom crown is fitted

Once the implant has fully integrated, your custom-made crown is attached. The crown is carefully shade-matched and shaped to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth. This is the moment everything comes together - and the result should be virtually indistinguishable from a natural tooth.

Can I have a same-day implant?

In certain cases, yes. Same-day implant treatment - where the implant and a temporary crown are placed in a single appointment - is possible for suitable patients. Whether you're a candidate depends on the health of your bone, your gum condition, and the specific clinical circumstances.

Edward will assess your suitability at your consultation and discuss all available options with you. If same-day treatment is an option for you, he'll talk through what that looks like and whether it's the right approach for your situation.

Dental implants vs other tooth replacement options

There are several ways to replace a missing tooth, and it's worth understanding how they compare before making a decision.

A bridge can replace a missing tooth without surgery and is typically quicker and more affordable. However, it requires the preparation of the healthy teeth on either side of the gap - which means permanently altering teeth that don't otherwise need treatment.

Dentures are a removable option and can replace multiple missing teeth, but they don't prevent bone loss and can feel less stable over time.

A dental implant is the only option that replaces the tooth root as well as the crown. It preserves the jawbone, leaves neighbouring teeth untouched, and with proper care can last a lifetime. It's a bigger investment upfront - but for most patients, it's the most cost-effective long-term solution.

Your dentist will give you an honest assessment of all your options at your consultation so you can make the decision that's right for you.

How much do dental implants cost in Stoke-on-Trent?

Single dental implant - from £2,100

The cost of implant treatment depends on a number of factors - including the complexity of your case, whether any preparatory work such as bone grafting is needed, and the type of crown used to restore the implant. All costs will be confirmed in your written treatment report following your consultation, before anything is agreed.

For a treatment of this scale, we offer flexible finance options to help spread the cost:

  • 0% interest over 18 months
  • Low-interest finance over 24 months (7.9% APR)
  • In-house payment plan - split into three payments, six months apart

Our treatment coordinator will walk you through all the options so you can choose the approach that works best for you.

Are dental implants right for me?

Most healthy adults are suitable candidates for dental implants - but there are some factors that can affect eligibility. Good general health, healthy gums, and sufficient bone volume in the jaw are the key requirements.

Certain medical conditions or medications can affect healing and integration, which is why a thorough medical history is taken at your consultation. Smoking can also impact implant success rates - Edward will talk this through with you honestly if it's relevant to your situation.

If you're not immediately suitable for an implant, there may be preparatory treatments - such as a bone graft or gum treatment - that can make you a candidate in time. Your consultation will give you a clear picture of where you stand.

Frequently asked questions about dental implants

Does implant placement hurt?

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you won't feel pain during placement - most patients describe a sensation of pressure rather than discomfort. After the anaesthetic wears off, some soreness and mild swelling around the area is normal for a few days and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief. If you're anxious about the procedure, sedation is available at Modwena Dental.

How long does the implant process take from start to finish?

The full process - from initial consultation to final crown fitting - typically takes between three and six months, allowing time for the implant to integrate fully with the bone. In cases where same-day treatment is suitable, this timeline can be significantly shorter.

How long do dental implants last?

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, dental implants can last for decades - and in many cases, a lifetime. The crown on top may need replacing after ten to fifteen years, but the implant itself is designed to be a permanent solution.

Is there an age limit for dental implants?

There's no upper age limit for dental implants - we treat patients of all ages. The main requirement is that the jawbone has finished developing, which means implants aren't usually placed in patients under the age of eighteen.

What if I've had a missing tooth for a long time?

It's still possible to have an implant, but bone loss may have occurred in the time since the tooth was lost. A CBCT scan will show the current state of the bone, and if a bone graft is needed it can usually be incorporated into your treatment plan. Edward will assess this thoroughly at your consultation.

What's the difference between Straumann implants and other brands?

Straumann is one of the most clinically researched implant systems in the world, with a long-term track record of high success rates. Using a premium implant system matters - cheaper alternatives may carry a higher risk of complications or failure over time. At Modwena Dental we don't compromise on the quality of the components we use.
