Losing teeth - whether one, several, or all of them - affects far more than how you look. It affects how you eat, how you speak, and how you feel about yourself day to day. Modern dentures are a reliable, natural-looking solution that restores all of that, at a price point that's accessible for most patients.

The word "dentures" still conjures up images of ill-fitting plates and uncomfortable wear for a lot of people. But modern dentures are a significant step forward from that - better materials, more precise fitting techniques, and a much closer match to the appearance of natural teeth.
At Modwena Dental, dentures are designed and fitted with real care. We take the time to get the fit right, the appearance right, and make sure you feel confident wearing them - because a denture that doesn't feel natural won't be worn, and that defeats the purpose entirely.
We offer four types of denture, covering a range of clinical needs and budgets. Your dentist will help you understand which option is most appropriate for your situation.

A partial denture replaces one or more missing teeth while the remaining natural teeth are still present. Acrylic partial dentures are made from a gum-coloured resin base with prosthetic teeth set into it. They're held in place by clasps that fit around existing teeth and are removed for cleaning.
They're a practical, affordable solution for patients who have lost some but not all of their teeth - and a good starting point for patients who are new to wearing dentures.

Chrome cobalt dentures use a lightweight metal framework as their base, with acrylic and prosthetic teeth attached to it. The metal framework makes them significantly thinner, stronger, and more comfortable to wear than a full acrylic plate - and because less material sits against the gum, they feel less bulky in the mouth.
Chrome dentures are a popular step up from standard acrylic for patients who want a more comfortable, longer-lasting option. They're particularly well suited to partial dentures, where the metal framework clasps can be made more discreet and precise than acrylic alternatives.

Flexi dentures - sometimes called flexible dentures - are made from a soft, lightweight thermoplastic material rather than rigid acrylic or metal. The flexibility of the material means they adapt to the natural movement of the mouth, making them particularly comfortable to wear.
Because they're made without metal clasps, flexi dentures are also more aesthetically discreet - the clasps blend with the gum tissue rather than sitting visibly against the teeth. They're a popular choice for patients who prioritise comfort and appearance and are particularly well suited to partial denture cases.

A full denture replaces an entire arch of missing teeth - upper, lower, or both. The denture sits on the gum ridge and is held in place by suction and the natural contours of the mouth. Full acrylic dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth precisely and matched carefully to look as natural as possible.
Getting used to wearing a full denture takes a little time - speaking and eating will feel different initially - but most patients adapt well within a few weeks.
The right denture depends on a combination of clinical factors - how many teeth need replacing, the condition of any remaining teeth and gums, your bone structure, and your lifestyle - as well as personal preferences around comfort, appearance, and budget.
Your dentist will talk all of this through with you at your appointment and give you an honest recommendation. There's no single right answer - it's about finding the best fit for your individual circumstances.

The adjustment period is something every new denture wearer goes through, and it's worth knowing what's normal:
Most patients adapt well within four to six weeks. The more you wear your denture, the faster the adjustment process goes.
Looking after your dentures properly will help them last longer and keep your mouth healthy:

Acrylic partial denture - from £495
Full acrylic denture - from £995
Chrome denture - from £995
Flexi denture - from £795
The exact cost for chrome and flexi dentures depends on the complexity of the case and how many teeth are being replaced. Your dentist will confirm all costs before any treatment begins.
We offer both NHS and private dentures at Modwena Dental. Your dentist will explain what's available to you under NHS provision at your appointment.
We see denture patients from Staffordshire to Cheshire, Shropshire and Derbyshire.
If you're looking for well-fitted, natural-looking dentures from a team that takes the time to get things right, we'd love to help.

With good care, acrylic dentures typically last five to ten years. Chrome dentures can last longer due to the durability of the metal framework. Over time, your mouth changes shape as the underlying bone remodels - which can affect the fit of your denture. Regular check-ups allow your dentist to monitor this and recommend relining or replacement when needed.
In many cases, yes - broken or cracked dentures can be repaired rather than replaced. Contact us as soon as possible if your denture breaks - don't try to repair it yourself with household adhesives, as this can damage the denture further and make professional repair more difficult.
Modern dentures are designed to look as natural as possible. The teeth are carefully selected to match the shape and shade appropriate for you, and the gum-coloured base is matched to your tissue. Most people find that well-made, well-fitted dentures are far less noticeable than they expected.
For most denture types, yes - removing your dentures overnight gives your gum tissue a chance to rest and recover. Wearing dentures continuously without a break can contribute to gum irritation and accelerated bone loss. Your dentist will advise on the best routine for your specific denture type.
Most patients can eat a wide range of foods comfortably once they've adapted to their dentures. Very hard, sticky, or tough foods can be more challenging - particularly with full dentures - and it's worth being mindful of these. Chewing on both sides of the mouth simultaneously helps keep full dentures stable during eating.
Yes. Poorly fitting dentures are one of the most common things we see. As the mouth changes shape over time, dentures that once fitted well can become loose and uncomfortable. In some cases a reline - where the fitting surface of the denture is updated to match the current shape of your gum - can restore the fit without needing a completely new denture. Your dentist will assess what's needed at your appointment.

Whether you're getting dentures for the first time or you're looking to replace an existing set that no longer fits well, we're here to help.
